Exploration Activity: Compound and Elemental Analysis At Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area (Quane, Et Al., 2003)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Kilauea East Rift Geothermal Area
Exploration Technique Compound and Elemental Analysis
Activity Date 1989 - 2000

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Exploration Basis
The purpose of this study was to analyze deep core sample from the Scientific observation holes and piece together a volcanic history of Kilauea

Notes
Eighty rock samples from the core of SOH-1 were analyzed for major and trace elements using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). The samples were made into thin sections as well as ground in a tungsten carbide grinding mill. A table of trace elements and amounts found during the analysis is provided in the journal article.
