Cobb Electric Membership Corporation Smart Grid Project

Cobb Electric Membership Corporation in Marietta, Georgia will receive $20 million in funding to develop a smarter energy grid. The U.S. Department of Energy chose Cobb Electric as one of 100 companies nationwide to receive funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.[2]

The proposed smart-grid will deploy 190,000 smart meters, covering 100 percent of the utility's customer base. Implement communication infrastructure and load control switches, using state-of-the-art interoperable systems, servers, and data management technologies.[1]
