Geothermal play type associated with active volcanism. Its dominating feature is a shallow magma chamber.

Magmatic Geothermal Plays are characterized by an intense heat source in the form of a shallow magma chamber. This heat source and the surrounding rock structure determine how geothermal heat will be transported. Since magma chambers cause the surrounding rock to stress, fractures and faults occur and ultimately affect the ability of fluids to move, acting as conduits or seals and creating reservoirs. The chamber’s parental melts, recharge of basalt and crystallized melts control fluid chemistry, fluid flow, and the overall geothermal system.[1]

The two types of magmatic plays are extrusive and intrusive.
