As countries develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of regional and global partners."

Program Focus

The program will focus on reducing poverty and inequality, strengthening democratic governance, increasing disaster preparedness and crisis prevention resources, and enhancing the environment through sustainable development.

Environment and Sustainable Development

"Latin American and the Caribbean is the region second most prone to extreme flooding, landslides, earthquakes and droughts. In addition, it is anticipated that climate change will increase the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable populations. According to the 2009 Millennium Development Goals Report, the region registers the second lowest coverage of improved drinking water in rural areas.

UNDP supports the design and implementation of sustainable development programmes based on each country’s needs and the Millennium Development Goals. Progress is measured according to the Implementation Plan of the 2002 Johannesburg Global Summit Sustainable Development."
