Exploration Activity: Aeromagnetic Survey At Mt St Helens Area (Towle, 1983)

Exploration Activity Details
Location Mt St Helens Area
Exploration Technique Aeromagnetic Survey
Activity Date

Usefulness useful
DOE-funding Unknown

Notes

The VLF method has proved useful in mapping the crater and central dome of Mount St. Helens. More detailed and extensive VLF investigations as well as other electrical and electromagnetic studies will be useful in determining the electrical structure of Mount St. Helens in more detail. Electrical and electromagnetic methods would be especially useful in determining the actual electrical conductivity of partial melt beneath the dome. The ability of these methods to determine the correlation of surface features within the crater to geologic structure at depth will be useful to detailed geologic mapping within the crater.

  • Uses high-resolution aeromagnetics
