1366 Technologies is a company located in Lexington, Massachusetts that develops manufacturing solutions for silicon cell manufacturers. They have developed both direct wafer and self-aligned cell technologies. 1366 Technologies is implementing a series of proprietary manufacturing innovations aimed at producing high efficiency multi-crystalline solar cells.

1366 Technologies has partnered with the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) at NREL[2] [3]. The company signed a contract with NREL in October of 2009 to develop its Direct Wafer technology. This PV Technology Pre-Incubator was the first of two government awards they received for developing Direct Wafer technology. According to 1366 Technologies, their technology can cut wafer production costs by up to 70%[4].
