Nevada Meeting #2 - Regulatory Issues

The second Nevada permitting meeting was held Tuesday, July 24th in Reno, and was attended by approximately 15 people from industry and agencies.  Participants reviewed the Nevada Geothermal Regulatory roadmaps that had been reviewed and revised in the first Nevada meeting.  During this meeting, identified potential issues they've encountered in permitting in Nevada.

One example of issue that was raised is that water monitoring programs are sometimes required at the federal, state and county levels - all with different requirements.  Additionally, different Nevada BLM field offices often have different monitoring and reporting requirements.  A request was made to consolidate reporting requirements.  Nevada BLM representatives said they are currently working with the USGS to develop a consistent monitoring program across field offices in the state.  BLM, state and county agencies plan to meet to discuss the USGS montoring plan and try to come up with a uniform monitoring checklist and reporting form to simplify future monitoring requirements for industry.
