Nationwide Utility Rates Available on OpenEI

Electric utility rates for U.S. companies are now available to view and download on en.openei.org, an energy information website hosted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Department of Energy. The information will allow towards homeowners and businesses to make informed decisions and investments regarding energy usage and choose the most economical combination of traditional energy and generating energy through renewable methods. The information can also help in planning energy usage in the near future.

For those interested further in the topic, NREL will also hold a town hall meeting on Monday, July 9th from 11:30-12pm Mountain time to discuss utility rates, curation process, APIs, and more with utility experts, including Dr. Dave Loomis and representatives of Illinois States University and NREL.

Beyond utility rates, OpenEI continues to broaden its wealth of information geared towards making knowledge and energy information open and readily accessible to the public. The wiki-style website also relies on crowd-sourcing to expand its resources, keep up-to-date, and gather feedback from the public. One of the newest projects is to gather Green button data from businesses and homeowners to help energy developers create better applications and energy systems.

More information on the town hall meeting can be found at: http://en.openei.org/community/content/town-hall-meeting-july-9th-2012.
