The designation will allow consumers to select the highest-rated products based on energy consumption, provide incentives to manufacturers to produce energy start products, and overall protect the environment by reducing energy use and emissions.

This further bolsters the energy star program. Consumers will have more access to efficiency information regarding products they purchase, leading to better decisions for the environment.

The pilot "Most Efficient" designation program will soon lead to products online and in stores with the "most efficient" branding on it. This, the EPA and DOE believes, will continue the success of the Energy Star program, which last year alone saved Americans roughly $18 billion on their energy bills.
