The DOE has made all the details available at their Apps for Energy page. Also, to supplement the DOE's Apps for Energy Challenge, OpenEI has many resources that can help developers create their energy app. If you are curious about the challenge or what Green Button is, or if you just need a sample dataset for your app, visit the OpenEI Apps for Energy page.

And so, thanks to the development of the Green Button initiative by the DOE, and with support from our partners; Itron, GRID21, and PG&E, the challenge has officially begun! In a month and a half, the public will have access to great new apps for analyzing their personal energy use.
